Ensuring the Safety and Success of Kent Pride Events
A Celebration of Pride Across Kent
During the summer of 2024, KD Traffic proudly supported three vibrant Kent Pride events in Canterbury, Ashford, and Deal.
These parades brought together thousands of people in celebration of diversity, inclusion, and love, and we were honoured to provide the traffic management solutions that ensured each event ran smoothly and safely.
Each Pride event presented a unique set of challenges. The parades, featuring floats and large groups of participants, needed to pass through heavily congested traffic areas and bustling pedestrian zones. The primary goal? To ensure the safety of all participants and spectators while minimising disruption to local traffic and businesses.
At KD Traffic, we understand the importance of blending into the background. Our role is to support events like these with precision and efficiency so that the focus remains on the celebration itself.
Timing and communication were critical to the success of these events. Roads needed to close and re-open at precisely the right moments to prevent congestion and ensure the parade stayed on schedule. Poor execution could have led to delays, frustration, and even jeopardised future events.
Thanks to careful planning, pre-event briefings, and the dedication of our team, each Pride parade was executed seamlessly. Feedback from organisers and participants was overwhelmingly positive. There were no complaints from the public, and all three events ran smoothly, allowing attendees to fully enjoy the celebrations.
To prepare for each Pride event, we collaborated closely with organisers to map out the parade routes. This involved conducting detailed site assessments, identifying necessary road closures, and creating CAD plans. Once the plans were finalised, we obtained permits and installed advance warning signs two weeks ahead of each parade, notifying the public of the upcoming events.
On the day of each event, our teams implemented temporary road closures and diversions, erected pedestrian and water barriers, and positioned signage to guide motorists. Operatives remained on-site throughout the parades to monitor equipment and ensure no unauthorised vehicles disrupted the festivities. Coordination was maintained via radios, allowing real-time communication to manage road closures and reopenings effectively.
The Pride organisers in Canterbury, Ashford, and Deal expressed their gratitude for our professionalism and commitment to making the events a success. They were delighted with the smooth execution and enthusiastic turnout and have already asked us to provide traffic management for next year’s events.
At KD Traffic, we don’t just provide traffic management - we become part of the community spirit. The excitement around our office grew with each parade, and it was wonderful to see so many of our team members, both operational and office-based, eager to volunteer and support these incredible events.
